Onkyo A9555 Integrated Digital Stereo Amplifier Review
To sum this piece of kit up we have to say “Slightly retro Looks, but 100% 21st century sound”, the Onkyo A9555 has a very precise sound for an amp in its price range. The bass is fast and punchy but not at the expense of the top end which is crystal clear and has a decent amount of that indefinable “airyness” true audiophiles are after. It has great vocal detail and can project very large sound into big spaces.

In the original Japanese “On” means ‘sound’ and “Kyo” translates as ‘harmony’, we have to agree in this case. If you are looking for a stereo amplifier in the $500 to $900 price range you will not find a better sounding unit.
Good points:
- Great value, stands up well against amps up to 2 and 3 times the price
- Elegant retro looks, and good overall build quality
- lush “tube” sound that is forgiving and never harsh
- Excellent mid range warmth
- Full Punchy bassend
- Good layout and easy to use front panel, also of good build quality
- Well designed and functional remote
Bad points:
- Occasional can sound a little too rolled off in the extreme high end. Very forgiveable at this price point.
- No pre-out / main-in jacks or pre-out for a subwoofer.
