The Onkyo DX7555 Audiophile Single Disk CD Player doesn’t have any of the usual bells and whistles associated with run of the mill CD players. It doesn’t have a 5 discs carousel. It doesn’t support WMA, SACD or HDCD. It is however a excellent mid to high end device built for approaching Audiophile level sound reproduction.

The sound Sound quality is excellent, It exhibits total harmonic distortion of less than 0.0027% (measured at 1kHz). The Onkyo DX7555 has a flat frequency response that doesn’t colour the sound or cause the top end to give a listener ear fatigue. This unit features Onkyo’s proprietary Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry, which apparently removes noise from the analogue signal by using a comparator/feedback circuit. The digital clock is also incredibly accurate and thus produces extremely low jitter. One feature of the player that we felt was a little beyond the call of duty for a unit in this price range is the control that allows the units digital clock to be adjusted by the user, this could theoretically be used to adjust accuracy per CD and give even more exceptional clarity, we felt that this control is more likely to simply be ignored by 95% of users.

Our overall feeling about the Onkyo DX7555 is that is is verging on Audiophile sound quality for a very reasonable price, to push yourself over the brink you are probably going to have to spend 3 to 4 times more. What’s more we found the unit very easy to configure to our liking and very pleasing in operation. Highly recommended.
